Section Sewing
Section sewing delivers a strong book by sewing all of the printed sections together with thread. The cover can then be added, either soft cover or hard cover (hard case). Generally the paper must be more than 80gsm to avoid unnecessary tearing.
Sewn sections will generally be a minimum of 16pp, but can be up to 64pp depending on the stock used and the finish required. To produce these sections many smaller sections will be wrapped (or pre-collated) into one. For example to produce 32pp sections, 4 x 8pp sections will be wrapped inside each other.
Sewing will normally be used for landscape books to give them much more strength. Also many high quality books will be section sewn, like art gallery, reference and text books due to the strength and longer life.
